How to Register Your Drone with Transport Canada
If your drone weighs 250g or more (up to 25kg), you must register it with Transport Canada before flying.
How to register:
- Go to the Transport Canada Drone Management Portal: tc.canada.ca/en/aviation/drone-safety/drone-management-portal
- Create an account or sign in
- Enter your drone's brand, model, and serial number
- Pay the registration fee
- Receive your unique registration number
Important rules:
- You must clearly mark your drone with its registration number
- Each drone must be registered separately
- You must carry proof of registration when flying
- Registration takes about 3 minutes online
Exemptions:
- Microdrones under 250g do not need to be registered
- Drones over 25kg follow a different certification process
Foreign pilots cannot register drones in Canada. They need to apply for an SFOC-RPAS instead.
Tip: The RPAS WILCO app helps you manage your drone fleet and keep registration info organized. Download free at rpaswilco.com.
