How to Register Your Drone with Transport Canada

If your drone weighs 250g or more (up to 25kg), you must register it with Transport Canada before flying.

How to register:

  1. Go to the Transport Canada Drone Management Portal: tc.canada.ca/en/aviation/drone-safety/drone-management-portal
  2. Create an account or sign in
  3. Enter your drone's brand, model, and serial number
  4. Pay the registration fee
  5. Receive your unique registration number

Important rules:

  • You must clearly mark your drone with its registration number
  • Each drone must be registered separately
  • You must carry proof of registration when flying
  • Registration takes about 3 minutes online

Exemptions:

  • Microdrones under 250g do not need to be registered
  • Drones over 25kg follow a different certification process

Foreign pilots cannot register drones in Canada. They need to apply for an SFOC-RPAS instead.

Tip: The RPAS WILCO app helps you manage your drone fleet and keep registration info organized. Download free at rpaswilco.com.
